Conceptual, Hands-On Metric Lesson
This lesson guarantees a conceptual understanding of the metric system by following the patterns involved and using manipulatives.   Over the years, it has been immediately successful for students in grades 3 through High school. Visualizing Algebra with Algebra Tiles (Penny Williams for Sandy Schoff)
Algebra can be as visual as geometry.  Algebra Tiles allow students to "see" the models behind the zero principal in addition and subtraction, solving linear equations, solving for unknown variables, multiplying and dividing polynomials,  factoring, and completing the square.  Totally hands-on class.

This is a facilitated roundtable, a symposium-style collaborative session. Helping mainstream teachers of ELs facilitate literacy acquisition brings questions: How is building literacy of ELs different? What are the research-supported models of EL coaching? and more. This session is of special interest to EL coaches and anyone involved in the professional development of mainstream teachers working with English learners.
