Featured Speaker Richard Thoman Keynote: Climate Change and Communities
Alaska's climate and environment are changing as rapidly as any place on earth, and this is impacting individuals, businesses, communities and cultures. The Alaska that your students will live in as adults is certain to be in many ways quite different than that of their grandparents. But experiences with the changing environment vary greatly, mediated by age, personal history and cultural background. This presentation will provide an overview of where the changes we've seen and the changes we're likely to see. We'll talk about western science as a way of making sense of the changes around us and relating that to local experience.
